Welcome to Maria Montessori International School

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you to the Maria Montessori International School and to our wonderful Montessori community.

« Montessori Education as a vector for peace »

This school is based on the thinking of Maria Montessori, with the aim of highlighting and putting into practice the philosophy of the doctor and teacher Maria Montessori, known worldwide for the teaching method that bears her name.

In a constantly changing world, where economic and global issues are becoming ever more pressing, education is becoming an essential pillar in preparing future generations to meet these challenges. The Montessori pedagogical approach stands out as a beacon of hope in this quest.

At the heart of Montessori education is a philosophy that celebrates each child's creativity, independence and autonomy. It promotes active learning and encourages children's natural curiosity. By placing children at the centre of their own learning process, Montessori prepares young minds to become critical thinkers and responsible citizens.

In the context of economic challenges, Montessori offers a promising perspective. By cultivating innovation, resilience and self-confidence, it prepares students to adapt to ever-changing economic challenges. These children grow up knowing that their creativity and ability to solve problems on their own are invaluable assets in the world of work.

As for global issues, Montessori education also promotes a profound respect for the environment. It teaches children to be responsible stewards of our planet, with an emphasis on sustainability, conservation and understanding the links between humanity and nature. These values are essential to preserving our world for future generations.

Ultimately, Montessori education goes beyond the simple acquisition of knowledge; it prepares children to become global citizens aware of economic and planetary issues, while cultivating their individual potential. By investing in this educational approach, we are investing in a better future for our children and for the planet as a whole.

I personally look forward to welcoming you soon to the Maria Montessori International School and thank you warmly for the trust you have placed in us.

A school structured according to the key principles of Montessori education, in which children are free to discover and experiment, to learn for themselves with desire and joy, to start again and improve, to encourage curiosity and creativity, to develop autonomy and self-confidence, to share values with children from all cultures, to understand, listen to and respect others and, above all, a school in which children are free to be and become.

The presence of many nationalities among our pupils is a guarantee of the open and cosmopolitan nature of our school.

We aim to be the leading private Montessori school in Geneva. The experience and personal commitment of the headmistress to an authentic Montessori school of excellence, together with the commitment of every member of the teaching team, ensure that our children have the best possible chance of success.

The school is also committed to creating a partnership with parents in order to establish a relationship of trust and enable them to be part of a warm and caring Montessori community.

Our values

Respecting children: One of our core values is a deep respect for each child as a unique individual. Educators and school staff recognise each child's needs, interests and pace of development.

Autonomy: Autonomy is encouraged from an early age. Montessori children are encouraged to explore, discover and learn independently. The classroom environment is designed to stimulate children's natural curiosity and encourage self-directed learning while developing their self-confidence and sense of responsibility.

Individualisation: Montessori education recognises that each child has his or her own learning pace and interests. Montessori educators listen and work to personalise teaching to meet the specific needs of each student.

Holistic development: Montessori focuses on the whole development of the child, including the intellectual, emotional, social and physical. Students are encouraged to explore various areas of learning, including music, art, culture and science.

Respect for the environment: Environmental awareness and sustainability are important values at our school. Students learn to respect nature and take care of the planet.

Collaboration and social responsibility: Collaboration between students and community responsibilities are encouraged. Students learn to collaborate, help each other, resolve conflicts and make a positive contribution to their community.

Freedom and discipline: Montessori students have the freedom to explore and choose their activities, but this freedom is framed by clear rules and limits that promote mutual respect and safety.

Practical learning: Practical learning is an essential part of Montessori education. Children use concrete materials to understand abstract concepts, which fosters deep understanding.

Educating for peace: In a broader vision, the school's ambition is to join UNESCO and contribute to working with other schools to promote education for peace.

Education for life: Montessori aims to cultivate a lifelong love of learning. Pupils are encouraged to develop the curiosity and passion for knowledge that will accompany them beyond school.

« For humanity, a child is both a hope and a promise. By caring for this embryo as if it were our most precious treasure, we are helping humanity to grow. »

Sarah Wirth – Founder, director and Montessori educator in French

After studying modern literature and language sciences at university, Ms Wirth trained to become a Montessori educator at the Institut Supérieur Maria Montessori in Paris. In the course of her training, she became convinced of the benefits of this teaching method, and of its very necessity in the development of children, where each individual evolves at his or her own pace and can reach their full potential. She taught for around ten years in bilingual schools in Switzerland. She also holds a diploma as an administrator of AMI Montessori schools and a certificate as a trainer of ASE (Assistant socio-éducatif) apprentices.

Aware of the importance of continuing education, she regularly attends conferences on Montessori pedagogy and various training courses to broaden her knowledge.

« My dream was to open a school based on the values of Maria Montessori, who believed that every human being is unique, that the child's development should be the most important thing of all and that his or her self-fulfilment should be an absolute priority. »
